Concert by the Lake - Thursday 27 May

The UQ BIG BAND will be performing for a FREE Lunchtime Concert in the natural amphitheatre beside the University Lake on Thursday 27 May, 12:30-1:30pm.

Come and enjoy some great big band swing favourites and songs made famous by Michael Buble, Phil Collins, Harry Connick Jnr. and Frank Sinatra in this fabulous natural environment.

UQ’s 100th Birthday Celebrations for Current Staff and Students

On 16 April 2010 the University of Queensland turns 100! The Vice Chancellor invites all current staff and students to a lunch-time birthday celebration to mark this important milestone in our history.

The birthday celebration event, which will be staged in the Great Court between 11.30 am and 1.30pm, will feature the UQ BIG BAND with vocals by Dave McCormack (Custard), food stalls and roving entertainment.

The brief official component of the event will include the cutting of the huge birthday cake and a toast to UQ's Centenary accompanied by a fanfare and the performance of "Birthday" by the UQ BIG BAND. All staff and students present will receive a glass of sparkling wine for the toast and a slice of birthday cake.

Don’t miss out! Join us and be a part of this “once in a lifetime” birthday celebration.

Coming up for 2010

We've got some great gigs coming up fast for 2010. The UQ Centenary Celebrations on Friday 16 and Sunday 18 April will be huge. We'll also be substantially raising the sound level for the Lunchtime Concert on Thursday May 27 and going to town for the BIG Celebration Sunday at the Brisbane Jazz Club on 27 June, 6-9pm.

Broadbeach Blends of Jazz Festival

The UQ BIG BAND's performance at the Blends of Jazz Festival under the sails at Broadbeach Mall on the Gold Coast on Saturday 16 August topped off a very busy August with a fantastic show and some hot playing.
