BIG Tropical Night - 19 October 2008

If you missed last year’s BIG Tropical Night, you won’t want to miss this!

Two bands for the price of one.

Dance to the UQ BIG BAND and its outstanding young performers playing swing standards and great arrangements of songs from artists such as Michael Buble, Phil Collins and Frank Sinatra.

On the same bill hear the luxurious latin rhythms of the Tropical Dance Orchestra and its five piece string section and soak up the atmosphere of the Brisbane Jazz Club right on the river across from the city at Kangaroo Point

Broadbeach Blends of Jazz Festival

The UQ BIG BAND's performance at the Blends of Jazz Festival under the sails at Broadbeach Mall on the Gold Coast on Saturday 16 August topped off a very busy August with a fantastic show and some hot playing.

City meets Country Ball - What a SHOW!

The stops were all pulled out for the City meets Country Ball at the Brisbane City Hall Main Auditorium on 9 August.

UQ BIG BAND Lunchtime Concert - 8 May 2008

The UQ BIG BAND plays its first concert for 2008 in the Nickson Room, School of Music, The University of Queensland,
12:30 to 1:30pm, Thursday 8 May 2008.

With an experienced core of players from last year, some great talented new performers and some exciting new material, this concert will sound tight and polished - not to be missed!

Catch the UQ BIG BAND later in the year at the UQ Open Day on Sunday 3 August (performance times on that day to be advised).

Play with the UQ BIG BAND in 2008

The UQ BIG BAND is looking for new members for 2008. Rehearsals will be held every Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00pm in the Nickson Room (434) at the School of Music, Zelman Cowen Building starting 27 February. You'll need to be able to read music to an acceptable level, be proficient on your instrument and be prepared to perform at concerts during semester.

The BIG Tropical Night at the Brisbane Jazz Club was a great success on Sunday 21 October. The UQ BIG BAND had the crowd on their feet for two powerhouse sets as the highlight of the night.

Showcase Concert UQ Centre - Friday 26 October

The UQ BIG BAND's final concert performance of the year will be the School of Music Showcase Concert at the UQ Centre on Friday 26 October. This concert will be (as its name suggests) a showcase of the different ensembles that perform under the auspices of the School of Music: the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the University Chorale, the UQ Brass Ensemble, the So-la Voce chamber choir and the UQ BIG BAND.
